Totally meant to do a "tidbits" post on Tuesday, but I got side-tracked with knitting and re-watching the first season of The L Word. You know - super-important stuff.
So, a few days late, but here you are, my favourite recent links:
I thought maybe Lilo looked a bit better at Coachella. Now I know why. [Cele|bitchy]
New perspective on GOOP's 10-second car ride. [Lainey]
JB's lookin' like a fool with his pants on the ground (I know, I know, the reference is, like, two years old, but I couldn't resist - and in fairness, so is this look). [WWTDD]
You guys, I am so excited for Halloween! I know it's not at all like me to get way, over-the-topinto something (note for those who don't "get" sarcasm: I'm totally lying), but what can I say? I'm going all out this year. More on that later in the week...
But for now - spooky, scary links!
HALLOWEEN EVENT TIDBITS
A coworker sent this to me one day last week, and I've been somewhat obsessed with reading more about it ever since. I'm not sure it's my cup of tea, but man does it look scary! [Blackout NYC]
These reactions of people going through the Nightmares: Fear Factory are awesome... and make me thankful that nobody ever recorded my reactions while going through the mazes at Wonderland... [The Star]
For those in the KW area, I hear that the haunted barn at Snyder's Family Farm (formerly known as Kim-Glo) is quite good. [Snyders Family Farm]
HALLOWEEN COSTUME TIDBITS
Some cute costume makeup ideas and accompanying tutorials [xoJane]
It's from a couple years ago now, but I still think this is a genius costume idea! [The Glamourai]
This is also a bit old (and actually, I think I might have posted it last year too, but I'm too lazy to look it up) but I can never get enough of already-in-your-closet Halloween costumes. Brilliant. [Lucky]
Subtle Halloween decorations (although let's be honest: subtlety has never been my strong suit, darling) [Cupcakes and Cashmere]
This is the hardcore kind of Halloween-costume-making that I like to see (and works well with the xoJane makeup post above!). [What I Wore]
Last but definitely not least, Heidi Klum is clearly a woman after my own heart. Go Heidi! [WWTDD]
HALLOWEEN MUSICAL TIDBIT
Again, I remind you that I am an enormous dork. With that in mind, please enjoy my Halloween-themed playlist.
Embedded player not working? Check out the playlist on here on Grooveshark!
As I mentioned in my post the other day, my Dad and I spent today painting my apartment. It looks awesome. When everything is all put back together (and when we fix a minor issue involving a huge chunk out of the wall as a result of the cat knocking over a bookshelf...) I'll post some pics.
Only the Davids (Cronenberg and Lynch) could make Lilo as Carrie okay with me. Granted, these pictures do make her look like she belongs in a horror movie. (Too mean?) [Celebitchy]
I think the real story here is that January Jones eats popcorn with one pinky out like she's having tea with the Queen. WTF? [WWTDD]
Finally, Taylor Swift gets press for something other than cuddling and songs about exes. [IDLYITW]
Damn! I was looking forward to watching her this. [Perez]
I cannot wait until my hair is long enough to try this. PS: How do we feel about her bangs? I think I might need to make a trip to my stylist... [Keiko Lynn]
Does it make me a dork that I kind of want her Jordan Catalano ring? (ah, who am I kidding - I don't care if it's dorky... I still love it!) [The Style Rookie]
...OH MY GOSH. They have a Twin Peaks necklace like the Catalano ring above. Squee! [Flamingo Cupcake]
Speaking of, my friend Alicia sent me a link to this the other day. Think I could rock a Dead Wrapped in Plastic bit on just one finger...? [The Frisky]
MUSICAL TIDBIT
In honour of my newly yellow walls, there was really only one choice for song of the day.
Sigh. I nearly just posted this with "Intro Goes Here" in this spot. I don't think I'm qualified to write anything of my own today. I mean, earlier tonight I sat an empty pot on the stove and then wondered why it wasn't boiling.
What I am qualified to do, however, is post links to other people's brilliance. Onto the tidbits!
CELEBRITY TIDBITS
First off, does anyone else follow Gary Busey on Twitter? No? Check out the below (click through for a full-size image). Funny? In poor taste? Too soon? Discuss.
Speaking of Chris Brown and Twitter, I'm with Lainey on Twittergate 2011. [Lainey]
I've been itching for tidbit day so I could share this amazing recap of Lohan's crime spree. Just... wow. [WWTDD]
Not technically a style blog, but how cute does Ashley Green look? [IDLYITW]
SONG OF THE WEEK
Thanks to my dearest D-Bag, I've had Jump On It stuck in my head for a few days now. There was no other choice. It's the song of the week. Let's also remember one of my fave things from the 90's: Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Carlton was always my favourite.
This is the place where I usually write something that I think is witty, but that everyone else probably skips so that they can get to the tidbits. Why am I pointing this out, you ask? Well, I couldn't think of anything to write here, so I just started writing. It's complicated, my process...
CELEBRITY TIDBITS
One step closer to taking payment for sex? [Celebitchy]
Sigh. And I was just starting to warm up to the Biebs. [WWTDD]
Sarah Jessica Parker's hair attends an event. [Just Jared]
Despite the outfit, I'm super excited for this show. [Lainey]
Born This Way - Glee Cast I admit it: I hated this song the first time I heard it. But after hearing it a few more times, I think I've come around. I thought about posting the Lady Gaga version, and then I remembered that irritating, over-the-top intro that made me hate the song in the first place. Instead, let's all enjoy the awesomeness of the Glee version... even if Kurt's "Likes Boys" shirt makes me scratch my head. Uh, hello, writers? This doesn't seem like something Kurt would say he dislikes about himself. Consistency, please!
I'll be posting something other than tidbits later in the week when I finish editing the pictures for it, but for now, please enjoy some of my favourite tidbits from around the web...
CELEBRITY TIDBITS
Oscar Wilde + Jersey Shore = the most delicious concoction since Ron-Ron Juice. [The AV Club]
Um, when has he thought about anyone other than himself? [Perez]
Mariah and Nick name their twins. The names are pretty much as stupid as you'd expect. [Cele|bitchy]
Don't hate, but they both totally do it for me. [Just Jared]
Totally agree with Lainey's take on Cammy. [Lainey]
STYLISH TIDBITS
In case you were wondering if harem pants are a good idea... [WWTDD]
Taylor Swift gets my best dressed award for The Met Ball. I know. [Go Fug Yourself]
MUSICAL TIDBIT
Don't Speak - No Doubt Inspired by The Style Rookie's love for the 90's, I've been enjoying some of my favourite tunes from the 90's. I remember listening to this song on repeat back in the days when I was sure I'd be either a novelist or a playwright for a living. You know, because there's such a demand for playwrights...
Finally, a working computer and some time to blog! Apologies for the lack of posts recently (though I think my beloved HLP is the only one who noticed...?). My computer decided to completely die a couple weeks ago, and I've been far too afraid to take it in to have someone look at it. Lappy II is five years old, and I have a terrible feeling that it's going to cost more to fix him than it would be worth. *sniffle*
So here I am in my parents' kitchen on Easter weekend, catching up on two weeks' worth of gossip blogs. I'm also blowing my nose an awful lot. It's a long weekend and I have vacation booked for Monday, so of course I have a terrible cold. I fail at time off.
Anyhow, tidbit time! Here's a sampling of what I've been catching up on this morning...
CELEBRITY TIDBITS
(Is it just me, or have celebrities been kind of boring the past few weeks? I struggled to even find three or four somewhat interesting tidbits. Maybe in the wake of Charlie Sheen's madness, normal celebrity craziness seems less crazy?)
I'm surprised Lindsay hasn't tried to use this excuse yet. [WWTDD]
Speaking of Lindsay, I think "120 days" means something really different in California than it does here... [D-Listed]
Jessica Simpson is Us Weekly's Style Icon of the Year. WTF? Does someone over there just have a really good sense of humour? [Celebitchy]
Megan Fox's Pretend Face (not to be confused with Present Face). [Lainey]
I wish I could pull off capris. I suppose I'll have to settle for her super-pretty pastel nail colour instead. [Kendi]
I had a similar experience the other day when SBB and I went through all of my accessories. [Cupcakes and Cashmere]
Just when I thought Tavi couldn't get any cooler, she starts liking Twin Peaks. [The Style Rookie]
Kelly got pap'd at Coachella looking super cute. So curious to know which actress they thought she was? My guess is Mia Kirshner. [The Glamourai]
NETFLIX TIDBIT
Dead Like Me, Complete Series I'd already watched this before it was added to Netflix (and, actually, I own the DVDs), but if you haven't already seen it, you need to watch it. Like, RIGHTNOW. I would explain what it's about, but the premise sounds super lame, so it's best if you go in not knowing. They execute it much better than I could explain it.
MUSICAL TIDBIT
Laura Palmer's Prom - You Say Party We Say Die Thanks AVD for letting me know about this song. It's pretty much my new favourite. Though if you haven't seen Twin Peaks, this video will seem really effing weird.
(Random TP-related side note: the light outside my apartment was flickering creepily all last weekend, and I was 99% convinced that BOB was going to be peeking out from behind the couch when I opened the door.)
My cat looks more like Zooey Deschanel than the Photoshop creation in this ad does. [The Gloss]
Not going to lie: I'm only posting this link because the phrase "sad hipster boobs" made me laugh. [Hollywood Tuna]
Am I alone in assuming this blind item is about Amanda Seyfried? [Lainey]
STYLISH TIDBITS
Kelly teaches us how to translate our personal style into home decor. [The Glamourai]
Jessica's DIY project for striped shades. [What I Wore]
I wish I were this courageous and this mature when I was 14. I'm pretty sure that my idea of feminism was writing "Girlz Rule, Boys Drool" on my notebook... [The Style Rookie]
Apparently we Canucks are sophisticated... [Kendi Everyday]
VIDEO TIDBITS
This is really just an excuse to tell you guys how excited I am that I will be seeing NKOTBSB live in concert this summer. Squee!
Rebecca Black helpfully explains (in song) where Friday falls in the calendar. Thanks Becca!
Thank you to Ange for introducing me to Coeur de Pirate via this Jay Malinowski video. I heart him, her, this song... everything.
For anyone who wants to hear some more Coeur de Pirate, might I suggest Fondu au Noir and Ensemble.
NETFLIX TIDBIT
Pulling, Seasons 1 -3 + Finale Special I've already got D-Bag hooked on this, but the rest of you with Netflix need to get on it. I love this show. It's one of those shows where I find myself laughing out loud, even when I'm watching it alone.
MUSICAL TIDBIT
Unbelievable - Kate Walsh SBB said it best, "This is the first time I've been able to understand the lyrics to this song." I have been listening to this Kate Walsh cover of EMF's Unbelievable pretty much non-stop for the past week.
While I haven't managed to actually get it posted yet, I've been working on a non-tidbits post that I should be able to share sometime this week. Well, actually, I kind of have to - it's related to Kendi's 30 for 30 - which starts February 1 - so I need to have my post ready for next Monday at the latest. Finally, a non-tidbit post in the works!
But for now...
CELEBRITY TIDBITS
Of course the big news today was the announcement of this year's Oscar nominations. Would you laugh at me if I said I kind of want Toy Story 3 to win? Sure, I love me some Mr. Darcy - and I'd love him to win best actor - but TS3 was definitely my fave movie of the year. [Oscar]
And what would the Oscars be without their hilarious counterpart - the Razzies. The Bounty Hunter gets my vote for worst picture of the year, and I must say, I love this year's special category "Most Eye-Gouging Mis-use of 3D". [Razzies]
Pretty much everything about Jennifer Love Hewitt makes me cringe, so this latest story doesn't surprise me. [WWTDD]
If you struggle with lip colour as much as I do, take a gander at Keiko's helpful tutorial. Full disclosure: I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like it would work... [Keiko Lynn]
If only I could actually live in Sofia Coppola's Marie Antoinette... (thanks for the link, SBB!) [Design Sponge]
VIDEO TIDBITS
Everything about this video disturbs and entertains me. (Thanks Karla!)
Cashmere Mafia, The Complete Series When this came up in my Netflix recommendations, I kind of vaguely remembered this review from the Fug Girls, and I had to give it a shot. I really enjoyed it in that guilty pleasure kind of a way. Sure, a lot of the story lines didn't make sense, and some of the outfits were deliciously cringe-worthy - particularly the ones Pat Field forced Lucy Liu into - but there's just something about it that made me watch all seven episodes... and kind of wish there were more.
MUSICAL TIDBIT
Gives You Hell - The All-American Rejects This song is another one of those guilty pleasures for me. I heard it on my way home from work tonight and have had it stuck in my head ever since. I may or may not have sung it to the cat while I made dinner (depending on whether or not you think that's weird). Actually, I don't know many of the words, so I was really only singing the chorus and "where's your picket fence, love?", and then humming the rest. In fact, up until five minutes ago, I knew it as "that song that Rachel sang in an episode of Glee" but I'm happy to hear that it has a much better title than what I'd given it.
Sigh. For the past few weeks, I've been telling myself that I'll post something other than just tidbits that week. Then I get to Tuesday and realize, "Crap. More tidbits, but still no proper content post." In my defense, the tidbits are far easier to write. No need to take any pictures or find pictures on the web and then get permission to use them. Yeah, I'm lazy.
CELEBRITY TIDBITS
Make fun of me all you want, but I liked the Rachel haircut back in the 90's, and I still like it today. Jennifer Aniston, on the other hand... [WWTDD]
I remember squealing with delight when I saw this tweet from J-Woww last week. [IDLYITW]
The Roomate looks like a good candidate for my list of awesome cheesy movies. It looks sooo terrible (why which I mean that I can't wait to see it!) [Celebitchy]
Calling all Teen Mom fans: you need to watch Teen Mom 2. Draaaaaa-ma!
MUSICAL TIDBIT
Try - Blue Rodeo This is dedicated to my favourite D-Bag, who celebrated a birthday this weekend. Love you, D-Bag! (Note: D-Bag is a term of endearment in this case, but D-Bag already knows that.)
